OPEN CALL
Organizations, general public, beach clean volunteers, social projects, and/or institutions: we invite you to be part of an exhibition in a shared vision and mission: to put focus on plastic waste, and to save and protect our oceans. A win-win cooperation open for everybody. We truly believe that we are stronger together, and hope to make friendships and interaction around the globe.
We must never give up hope that our engagement and action makes a difference. In Fredrikstad, Norway, we are building a cathedral inspired by traditional Norwegian stave churches where the roof tiles will be made of recycled ocean plastics. The cathedral becomes proof that we can transform something bad into something good. Hope Cathedral will make a significant contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life below water.
Our inspiration
-is the boundless ocean which connects us. Nations, continents and individuals, whichever religion we might belong to, or not. The ocean is life-giving and our collective heritage. This heritage is under threat. If we are to save it, we must work together.
The art of having hope for the ocean
Our vision is to create an exhibition of various shaped and colorful plastic pieces, with written statements from all around the world. We will use these ”statement pieces” as part of the project Hope Cathedral. It is possible that some of the pieces will be part of the rooftop itself as well.
The mission:
On World Cleanup Day or any beach cleanup you may participate in: if you find a plastic piece or cut outs that fit into an (up to) A4-sized envelope, write a word or a statement on it and send it to us! We will name all contributors - both at the construction site and on our web page, as friends of Hope Cathedral.
We hope you will join this project, as a symbol of hope & uniteness for the ocean!
We need a common expression of hope – a symbol to unite us. Across differences of age, nationality and religion.
Send your pieces to:
Hope Cathedral, Phønixbrygga 3, N-1606 Fredrikstad. NORWAY
